Sintra is a charming Portuguese town situated at foothills of the Serra de Sintra, near the capital, Lisbon. The Palácio Nacional de Sintra (Palace of Sintra) also known as Town Palace is a gothic palace, boasting an extensive history and ornately painted ceilings. One of the notable thing and icon of Sintra is two massive chimneys protruding from the kitchens of palace.
Ancient Sintra castle offers wonderful views over the region.
Quinta da Regaleira is a beautiful mansion with a fascinating garden with lots of secret passaged tunnel and two initiation wells.
Quinta da Regaleira Gardens and Initiation Well
The fascinating garden of Quinta da Regaleira contain hidden tunnels and secretive religious symbolism. Initiation Wells, is one of the most intriguing parts of the Quinta da Regaleira Gardens. The stairs going up and down carry the symbolic meaning of death and rebirth.
The garden itself has a lot of tunnels and secret passages and connections. Some of these passages are still accessible to tourists whereas some are restricted.
All in all it was an amazing day trip. I took a day trip to Sintra while staying at Lisbon. However the city has a lot many beautiful attractions to explore and you can definitely spend 2 days here.
